Essential Books

These are some books that have really changed things for me;

  • Krishnamurti – The first and last freedom.
  • Steven Covey – The 7 Habits of highly effective people
  • Daniel Goleman – Emotional intelligence
  • Myers – Gifts Differing
  • Robert Sternberg – Beyond IQ: A theory of triarchic intelligence
  • Alfred Korzybski – Science and Sanity – Which spawned:
    • Robert Anton Wilson – Quantum Psychology
    • S I Hayakawa – Language in thought and action
  • Robert Kiyosaki – Rich dad, poor dad
  • The 48 Laws of Power – Robert Greene

I will add more to this with descriptions when I get round to it :whistle:

Some of these books contain twee stories and seemingly irrelevant parts. They are not a “magic bullet”, but have distilled and updated wisdom from thousands of years of history. As with any media, take the important points that are relevant to you and use them. Once I had read them, it all seemed like common sense, but I reckon I just needed to see it in writing.

One thing I noticed while reading reviews of these books after reading them is that reviewers like to focus on small points to try and discredit authors, while ignoring the colossal amount of useful points. Way to go, reviewers. What is the qualification for being a book critic anyway? Being a failed author? Liking the sound of your own voice?
